In 2012 I got a place on a degree course to study for a BA in textiles. The course was called 'surface design' or something like that and I was looking forward to developing my experience so far of melting, heating and embellishing material. However, after three months of knitting machines, weaving looms, Jaquard machines and Kate Moss clips in lectures, I realised I had made a mistake and switched quickly to the visual arts degree instead.
